What is Reiki?

A Reiki practitioner is able to conduct energy from the universe using her own body as an energy conduit. The energy is then conveyed to others through the laying on of hands, surely the oldest and most perfect form of comfort.

The word Reiki , which is pronounced "ray key", is actually made up of two Japanese characters -- Rei , which can be literally defined as 'universal' or 'boundless,' and Ki , which is life force energy, the essential and activating force of life. The Ki  in Reiki  is known in other languages and traditions by many names, notably Prana  in India and Ch'i  in China, among others.

Life force energy is fundamentally healing and revitalizing at every level. A Reiki session transmits healing energy into the body, bathing those areas of pain, illness and injury. The results can be anything from profoundly relaxing to truly miraculous!

Reiki complements Western medicine. Reiki practitioners do not diagnose conditions, nor do they prescribe substances, perform medical treatment, or interfere with the treatment of a licensed health care professional.
